The Pacemaker by Imania Margria
Minerva Walsh wins a full scholarship to the most prestigious school in the country, Calendula University. The thing is, she never applied. Fully prepared for this to be a mistake and go on her way, Minerva is welcomed into a world that seems so perfect and positive, a big change from her current life. However, she soon discovers that she’s in the midst of dark secrets, deadly curses and a strange new power to control time that may all be connected to her lost memories from before she was 18. With the help of her new friends, Minerva must learn to navigate her new power, this new place and potentially save the world. Can she do it?
Explicit Content Warning: This book contains one sex scene and a few deaths. A couple of the deaths are described in gruesome detail. If you don’t like these things in your reading, this book is not for you.
The Pacemaker by Imania Margria is the first book in a series and, as always seems to be the case, I want to read more. Margria has built an entirely new and complex world with well thought out characters. The main character, Minerva, shows tremendous growth in this first book and should only grow more as the story continues. She faces all the challenges this new city presents head on and takes everything in stride. As the new girl in town, Minerva has a lot to learn about those around her and the author has put a lot of thought into the backstory of each character and how they have developed up to the point they meet Minerva.
Although Minerva is the main focus, we also get to see things from the perspectives of various other characters. These varied perspectives give a really good idea of how the characters are all connected and how their stories are intertwined. Margria has left no stone unturned where details are concerned. She has thought of absolutely everything and there are no lose ends except for the cliffhanger at the end.
So much drama, a lot of secrets, a little bit of romance, and some fantastical elements, The Pacemaker by Imania Margria will surely keep you captivated. If you like characters that are not quite human, secrets ever so dark and a touch of romance than this book is for you.
