Trying At Home Laser Hair Removal

Hello Friends!

Today we are talking about hair removal. If this is something you do then you will know that there are a lot of ways to do it. Shaving, waxing, epilating, creams, lasers. It’s a lot of fuss or pain to remove hair and salon laser appointments are very expensive. Recently, there has been a growing number of at home laser hair removal products on the market and I thought I would give one a try. I, personally, have used a mix of shaving, waxing, and creams throughout my life but have always wanted to try lasers. Now is my chance!

I purchased the KENZZI IPL Hair Removal Handset. At first glance the price seems expensive, but think about how much money you would spend on other products in your lifetime. I justified it because it is a one time purchase with mostly permanent results. You use it weekly for 12 weeks or until you see desired results and then just do touch ups every few months. Sounds easy enough. I’m trying it out to see if it really is that easy.

The device comes neatly packages in its own storage box with the handset, wall cord and instructions.

Now, there are a few things that you need to do before using the device on your skin.

First up, scrub. Exfoliating helps loosen any ingrown hairs and remove dead skin cells that could block the light from reaching the hair follicle. I use the sugar rushTM shower sugar body scrub from Tarte.

Next, shave. I know, I know. Using this supposed to eliminate the use of other hair removal methods but there is a point to this step. Shaving removes surface hair that could block the light’s path to your skin but leaves hair in the follicle for the light to travel down. The light is more effective on clean, smooth skin. I use Schick Intuition. It’s available at any drugstore and eliminates the need for shaving cream or gel.

Next. treat. Plug the IPL handset in and turn it on. There are 5 different power settings you can choose from. It is always recommended to start with the lowest setting and work your way up, which is exactly what I’m doing.

Place the light window against your skin and click! You can either move and click manually or hold the button down for 5 seconds and it will automatically click when pressed against your skin. You can use the device anywhere below your upper lip. I’m using it on my underarms, legs and bikini area.

The final step is to moisturize. Applying lotion after using the laser will help to soothe and cool the skin. I use this moisturiser. It’s a thicker, creamy consistency that feels really nourishing on my skin.

The effectiveness of laser hair removal does vary depending on the contrast between your hair and skin. I have pale skin and fairly dark hair so, theoretically, this should work great for me. If you have darker skin or lighter hair, this may be less effective and/or require a greater number of treatments to achieve the desired results.

I have done a few treatments so far and it was super easy. It doesn’t take long to go over your chosen areas with the laser. I found it to be completely pain free, although I could feel quite a bit of heat coming off the device. I’ve heard that some people do feel little zaps or flicks, so it varies person to person.

After only a few treatments, there is no difference. But that’s to be expected. I will update in about a month or so to let you know how it’s going.

Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you have a lovely day.

XOXO ~ Amber Rose
