The Colonel and The Bee by Patrick Canning

The Colonel and The Bee by Patrick Canning follows acrobat The Amazing Beatrix as she escapes an abusive traveling circus and joins Colonel James Bacchus on his hot air balloon. Originally a one night stowaway, Beatrix convinces the Colonel to let her stay aboard. She is deemed Bee and officially joins the Colonel on his quest for treasure and secrets. Traversing Europe and Africa they meet friends and enemies, all on a hunt for the precious Blue Star Sphinx. But there is more to the Colonel’s search than meets the eye and Bee will soon discover that the world of treasure hunting is full of surprises.
The Colonel and The Bee is a very well thought out adventure story. The main storyline is that of Colonel Bacchus and Beatrix but there are also numerous introductions of new characters and storylines that all layer together. All of the side storylines, no matter how small, fit nicely into the puzzle and create additional interest.
I must commend Patrick Canning on his creativity. For every prediction I made while reading he came up with a new twist and there were endless surprises. I have never read a story as unique in both plot and details as this one. Expect the unexpected is certainly true when it comes to this adventurous, globe-trotting tale.
I would highly recommend The Colonel and The Bee by Patrick Canning to anyone with a sense of wonder and adventure. If you like plot twists, surprises and unusual characters then definitely give it a read.
